In January of 1999 I was working on an independent project at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. I was solely responsible for programming a project known as Infoskills for the University. This was a program that would help students in the job market. It was a very simple, now overdone idea where people would leave information and companies would contact the various students regarding job opportunities. In 1999 this was still a fairly young market. Because of my work on this project I decided to take the information regarding programming in ASP and talk to a Visual Basic class at the university about ASP. It was at this time I wrote "An Overview in Utilizing ASP to Display Database Information on a Webpage" for use as class materials. After the class was over I realized there was very little good information on the web regarding Active Server Pages and Database Connectivity. I put up the page so that others could learn.
It is now September 14, 2001. There are now numerous ASP Sites, Discussion Groups, etc. I am pleased to say that the page I put up has received numerous compliments from various individuals from around the world. I have not added to or changed my original document with the exception of adding some resources I felt were good. Books on ASP, etc. Since they are associated with affiliate programs I do make a little money, very little money (I got a check from Goto.com last month for $15.00 which I made over the last quarter. I took my girlfriend to Burger King for dinner! WO-hoo!). But seriously, I have had what I feel are an amazing amount of visitors in that time, 80,824 since I started tracking in mid January of 2000. I am happy that so many have benefitted.
I currently work for a credit card processing company continuously developing their Internet shopping cart software interface which is also in ASP. After talking with some co-workers I realized that perhaps another informational page needed to be created. That's when I wrote "An Overview in How to write ActiveX DLLs and Use them in ASP Scripts". It seemed that many thought it would be difficult to create DLLs and properly use them. I hope many find this document useful. If you do please email me.
